So I’ve been watching some SATC on TBS and the WB CW recently, and I have to say:

Carrie’s psychological problems are so fucking obvo!

The Aidan drama is currently in heavy roto, and it’s so apparent that

• Her inability to accept what Aidan offers (love! Plus, he’s hot!) +
• Her insatiable desire & lust for what Big offers (rejection! fantasy!) +
• Her lack of financial stability at age 35 (no savings?!?!) =

suggest some serious regression-to-defense-mechanisms-circa-age-zero.

Because they have been depending since childhood upon these fantasies [that they are bad & the parent is good; that they can self-nourish] to give them a sense of accomplishment, they cling to these fantasies rather than relinquish them for anything real.

They shy away from success, both interpersonal and vocational, and limit themselves in countless ways. They act as their own jailers, and when they project this attitude, they become paranoid that others are depriving or victimizing them… Live feeling and expressions of vitality cause anxiety to those who are well-defended, and this waking-up experience can be very painful.

Translation: Carrie needs massive amounts of therapy, injected directly into her eyeball. Her and Big’s marriage is doomed; it’s a good thing the series ended to spare viewers the very real future of misery and delusion that was certainly in their future.

Until she straightened out whatever designer baggage she was toting that made her crazy for the nothingness of Big and afraid of the plenty of Aidan, she was gonna keep making the same mistake.
